Everyone feels anxious now and then. It’s a normal emotion. For example, you may feel nervous when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision. Anxiety disorders are different, though. They are a group of mental illnesses, and the distress they cause can keep you from carrying on with your life normally. The American Psychological Association (APA) defines anxiety as “ an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure .” Anxiety is a term for feelings of fear, nervousness, apprehensiveness or worry . Everybody gets anxious at times and some anxiety actually helps us to function well, but anxiety can become a problem when: It happen too often It goes on for a long time It stops us from doing things that we want to do.
